Abstract
The idea of localised charge compensation is introduced, and used to obtain probable atomic configurations in uranium-activated fluorides, particular attèntion being given to uranium-activated sodium fluoride. High- dispersion fluorescence and absorption spectra of various sodium fluoride phosphors are shown and discussed. There are large effects due to other impurities present and also to cooling down from 77 °K to 4,2 °K.
