Abstract
Activator and coactivator impurities in ZnS act like acceptors and donors. Coulomb interaction between them produces a great degree of association. The edge emission is ascribed to nearest-neighbour acceptor-donor pairs ; the pairs which are not of the nearest-neighbour type are identified with the luminescence centers.
